Alsace wines are famous for being fresh, aromatic and elegant. But how do grapes turn into that magic in your glass? Letโs break it down โ simple and fun
๐ฑ Step 1: Growing the Grapes
Alsace vineyards sit along the Vosges mountains, which protect them from rain. Result? Perfectly ripe grapes with lots of flavor.
Most Alsace wines are made from one single grape variety (Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris).
๐ Step 2: Harvest Time
Grapes are usually harvested by hand, to keep them intact and select only the best ones. Quality always comes first here.
๐ง Step 3: Pressing the Grapes
The grapes are gently pressed to extract the juice. For white wines (which Alsace is famous for), the skins are removed early to keep the wine fresh and clean.
๐พ Step 4: Fermentation
The grape juice ferments in stainless steel tanks or old oak barrels. This is where sugar turns into alcohol and aromas develop. Slow fermentation = more elegance.
๐ฐ Step 5: Aging & Bottling
The wine rests for a few months to refine its flavors, then itโs bottled in the iconic tall Alsace bottle (yes, that slim one!).
๐ท The Result
Fresh, aromatic, food-friendly wines with a strong identity โ perfect for fish, spicy food or cheese.
Simple grapes. Serious character.
